Our solution has contributed to fewer errors during the connection process, and clearer documentation of events, in addition to enabling the possibility for future expansion. Read more about the project below.
CONTACT US When larger
ships are docked, they emit huge amounts of air pollution. This is because the
engines need to be kept running to generate power for the facilities on board.
To comply
with local environmental requirements in ports around the world, it can be
beneficial for transport and logistics companies to invest in shore power
systems. In this way, their container ships can be powered from land, meaning they
can switch off the engines while docking.
At Tipatek, we have contributed to developing shore power systems for container ships. In the
project, we were responsible for programming the controller for the PLC and the
HMI.
The
solution was a Siemens controller that could connect and disconnect equipment,
signal the shore-based high-voltage system, etc. Central to the solution was
the HMI, whose task was to make the connection process as easy as possible for
the operators. Key features included:
With our
solution, fewer errors will occur during the connection process due to the fixed
guides that operators must go through every time a ship connects to the system.
The log
functions, which measure and register the power, ensure clear documentation of
the energy consumption in the different harbors.
In addition,
the solution is easily scalable for future expansion.
